ALBUM WEEK| Circa Waves – Young Chasers
Given our rave reviews for Circa Waves’ singles So Long and T-Shirt Weather, along with a stellar live review, the Liverpudlian band’s debut album ‘Young Chasers’ was highly anticipated here at KUBE. What we expected was essentially what we got – an album packed full of energetic indie tracks – though in all honesty most songs blended into one another.
Sounding a lot like The Inbetweeners soundtrack, Circa Waves capture that youthful spirit that comes with coming-of-age, making them the ideal band to start up a house party. That said, the album offers little else mixing up just two formulas – the frantic, fast paced track with the slightly slower indie ballad. Though none of the songs are individually weak, tracks like the adjacent My Love and Deserve This become fairly indistinguishable and it’s easy for several songs to pass by without you realising. High points would be the opening which loads three main singles at the start (Get Away is the ideal bouncy opener the album needed) and the final song Talking Out Loud which proves to be the stronger of the relatively slower songs.
‘Young Chasers’ is worth a listen though we won’t be giving it a second spin. Circa Waves are clearly stronger in single production rather than albums. It’s not disappointing, just a little anti-climatic.
