An Interview with WALK THE MOON
WALK THE MOON are ever rising stars in the pop punk music scene. With their catchy, upbeat music and their energetic stage presence they’ve won fans all over their native land of America and are ready to take on the UK – believe me when I say Shut Up And Dance is one of the catchiest songs you will hear this year! After working up the crowd in support of All Time Low and You Me At Six on a week long arena tour of the country we caught up with lead guitarist Eli Maiman to find out a little more about the Ohio group.
You’ve just finished supporting You Me At Six and All Time Low on their UK arena tour – how did it feel to play in front of thousands of people each night?
It was such an amazing opportunity to get in front of a lot of new listeners. Really exciting. YMAS and ATL have incredible fans who were super supportive and receptive. We had a blast.
All Time Low have to be one of the craziest bands in existence but what would you say is the wildest thing that WALK THE MOON have got up to?
You’re going to have to buy me a drink before you start getting those stories out of me.
How would you guys personally describe your musical style?
We play rock n roll with lots of synths and vocal hatmonies. We take a lot of influence from the bands of the 80s – Talking Heads, Prince, ELO. We love pop that twists towards the weird.
Do you feel like you’re strongest as recording artists or live performers?
We love writing and recording, but we really feel like the heart of WALK THE MOON is in the live show. Connecting with fans in person is what makes this the best gig ever.
If you could put anything on your dressing room rider what would you choose?
We’re really trying to use it as a way to meet girls… We’ve been asking promoters to get Mila Kunis to a show for years. Still no luck.
If KUBE readers and listeners were to check out one song to sum up the band, which one should we point them to?
Check out our new single, “Shut Up And Dance”! You can pre-order it on iTunes now, and it’ll come out May 4th!
When will we next be able to see you live in the UK?
Our new record, TALKING IS HARD, is coming out May 11th. We’ve spent the better part of a year and a half working on it, and we can’t wait for you to hear it. You can be sure that we’ll be back to share it with you!
