Twenty Twenty – ‘Get Down’

Twenty Twenty are a 3-piece outfit hailing from the South of England.
Despite their youth, they have already toured in support of notable artists
on the UK scene, from McFly and Scouting for Girls, to Tinchy Strider
and The Saturdays. ‘Get Down’ is their fifth single release and with the
increasing success of the previous four, no doubt aims to continue this
trend.
The band’s sound has elements of pop, punk and classic rock, fed
through a highly polished pop production. Moments of the tracks are
reminiscent of early Blink 182 and McFly, however Twenty Twenty’s sound
is far more poppy than either. The song is simple yet effective, with a
mildly memorable hook, and a slightly heavier bridge section being the
standout parts. Although, the vocals are effective, the amount of studio
production does obscure them a little, removing any individuality or sound
they probably once possessed.
‘Get Down’ is an inoffensive track, likely to appeal to younger
audiences, but it doesn’t provide anything particularly new or exciting.
I wish the band success as they appear to play their own instruments,
perhaps even write their own songs. If this became more commonplace,
perhaps pop music could become interesting again rather than the blandly
commercial mess which describes much of it today.
