Song- The Futures Not What It used To Be.
Artist- The King Blues.

The King Blues are a six piece from London who's generes include ska, punk and folk. I could probably compare them to Jamie T, Jack Penate and Babyshambles and a lot of other London Underground music. There influences can be clearly traced back 80’s punk from the likes of The Stranglers to the Sex Pistols. this is usually a genre i enjoy however the new single “The Futures Not What It’s Supposed To Be” doesn’t live to my expectations.
In the new single they’ve attempted to move away from there quirky lyrics about young life and young love and the punk rock guitar style into a more mainstream club style with a dub step remix. Which is good in its own right. I feel like they’ve matured as a band and are moving on with there style and experimenting with new ideas, but to be honest I miss the casual carefree band that they used to be. This song is a bit too heavy for me, the lyrics about politics and society seem a bit irrelevant to my everyday life and perhaps the everyday lives of most young people today.
I think that the new single is a great attempt to branch out and to gain depth as a band, but i think they need to work on it a little bit more to create a balance which satisfies old fans but still reaches out to new ones. To be honest, its just not my cuppa tea.
Final Score- 3/5
