Song- Overtime
Artist- Clement Marfo and the Frontline Featuring Ghetts
Reviewer- Lape Banjo
Although this track is catchy, it has less to do with the music and production and more about the lyrics and message in order to grab the attention of grime audiences. This is a deviation from the regular promotion of guns, sex, drugs and violence, which allows appeal to mainstream listeners. The production is fine and works well for the song however lyrically is where it shines, though barely.
Clement Marfo and the frontline are obviously trying to reach for the the bench markers of the scene and knock them off the perch, however with the likes of Tinchy Styrder and Tinie Tempah that’s not going to happen due to the fact it doesn’t quite achieve the same standards. However due to the fact that it’s in the same genre the mainstream and grime aspect of this single will results in a larger audience and thus increasing in sales. It’s not something that I would play on my iPod, it lacks the wow factor but for those who are into grime, it might just be worth checking out.
Final Rating- 2/5
