Team:Keele #BUCSNationals Weekend!
Last weekend Team:Keele attended BUCS Nationals in Sheffield. They took a team of 40+ strong athletes from Swimming, Badminton, Climbing, Fencing, Indoor Athletics and Judo. A thanks has to be given to Sport Keele and the KU Physio Clinic for providing full support to our athletes throughout the weekend!
#BUCSNationals Sheffield 18 – Day 1 Overview
Fencing – Luke was first up to represent Team:Keele this morning in the Men’s epee. He got matched against the 9th seed for his first match and after a long fought march he lost 7-15.
Badminton – Tom won all 3 of his matches in the Men’s Singles and has moved on to the next round. Rohan and Emma put in a good fight but unfortunately lost their Mixed game, marking the end for their fixtures. Tom and Charlotte won both of their Mixed matches, qualifying for the next round on Saturday. Emma and Kirsty start their Women’s Doubles journey tomorrow and so do George and Rohan in the Men’s Doubles. A great showcase today team!
Swimming – Men’s and Women’s freestyle relay teams took to the pool today and both teams put in a solid performance beating their entry time. Saturday is a busy day for Keele Swim Team as they begin competing in their individual events.
#BUCSNationals Day 2 – Update
The 2nd day at BUCS Nationals proved to be a busy one for #TeamKeele but also one of great success.
Athletics – Keele University Athletics & Cross Country Club Hugh, competed in the Men’s shoot put in the morning and with an throw of 12.67m he finished 3rd in his pool and qualified for the finals. The final will take place on Sunday at midday.
Badminton – Keele Badminton Club 2017/18 Tom started the day with his Men’s Singles game against a strong competitor. After a hard fought game, he lost his match 1-2 and got knocked out of the competition. Kirsty and Emma also got knocked out of the women’s doubles, but Rohan and George won their first game in the Men’s Doubles. Unfortunately they also got knocked out in the next round. The afternoon saw Tom and Charlotte in the Mixed Doubles. Unfortunately they were drawn against a tough opponent and could not continue their winning streak. This marked the end of #TeamKeele’s journey in the Badminton Championships.
Climbing – Keele Mountaineering and Climbing 4 strong Keele climbers from the Mountaineering club competed in the afternoon at the Climbing Works in Sheffield. All four did an amazing job, but unfortunately they did not qualify for the final climb. Keele placed 71st and 77th out of 171 climbers in the women’s climb and 24th out of 259 in the Men’s climb.
Swimming – Keele University Swimming Club 2017/18 had a full day of heats at Ponds Forge. They had the help of Sophie throughout the day who was providing them with physio support and sports massage. The highlight of the day came during the medley relay races where both the men’s and women’s teams finished 3rd in their heats.
Judo – 7 Keele judoka battled it out on the mats in the Men’s -60kg, -73kg and -81kg categories. Success came in the -81kg category, with a Keele athlete making it through to the knockout rounds and placing 2nd overall and winning a silver medal! A huge congratulations to Keele Judo.
#BUCSNationals Day 3 – Update
Athletics – Hugh has finished 8th in the Men’s Shot Put with a throw of 12.69m
Swimming – Keele University Swimming Club were being represented in the heats for the 100m and 50m events. The Stand out event of the day was Becca finishing 1st in the 400m freestyle heats.
