Under the Spotlight… Ed Sheeran & Rudimental – Bloodstream
Ed Sheeran is the latest big name to collaborate with Rudimental, producing a remix of Bloodstream, a track from his Multiply album. Both artists have seem massive commercial success over the last 12 months, with Sheeran selling out stadiums as large as Wembley and Rudimental being booked onto some of the biggest festivals of the year such as Boardmasters.
While the original Bloodstream track was great in its own way, the remix is far better on almost every level. Featuring a far more catchy beat and more prominent piano chords, the Rudimental version is much better to listen to. The distinct Rudimental drumming style combines wonderfully with Sheeran’s vocals to produce a unique track worthy of multiple listens. The only complaint one could have is that the track seems stuck between two genres. It is neither entirely acoustic/alternative and nor is it entirely drum and bass. It’s a strange middle ground and although it works well in this case, I doubt it will be seen repeated much. The song feels as though it’s not quite suitable for casual listening and not quite suitable for clubbing either.
In conclusion, this remix is a step ahead of the original in almost every sense. It proves yet again that Rudimental are capable of working with almost any artist and provides a foundation for Ed Sheeran to expand his fanbase even more.
